The Night Press publishes Niel Wright's The Imaginings of the Heart and Ivy Gibbs' Selected Poems
In October, The Night Press published two chapbooks of classic New Zealand poetry: The Imaginings of the Heart by Niel Wright and Selected Poems by Ivy Gibbs.
Niel Wright was the most prolific poet of New Zealand in the 1960s. In 1966, he had a book published in America by The Chiron Press in Lawrence, Kansas. The Imaginings of the Heart includes forms that Wright became a foremost writer of such as the epigram and triolet. Other poems explore the Classical poet Palladus and range widely on ancient and modern subjects, a feature of his epic poem The Alexandrians. This edition marks 60 years since the book was published and recognises a significant New Zealand poet.
Ivy Gibbs was well known for her verse in Australia and New Zealand from 1920-1948. In 1949, Arhur H. Stockwell published her work in England as The Day is in a Pensive Mood. Selected Poems provides an introduction to her verse selected from newspapers, magazines and anthologies, and shows a significant New Zealand poet.
The books will be available at lulu.com bookstore.
